Becoming or staying Vegan isn’t as easy as avoiding animal products or their secretions.
(eating animals directly, eggs, cheese, milk. or whey)
The fact of the matter is that it isn’t easy to avoid… For example, Debbie and I used to like
eating a Jalapeno flavored Kettle chip from a Texas-based grocery store HEB (HEB brand).
When looking at the ingredients it turns out there’s milk, cheese, and whey used in the
flavoring-wtf? A normal person would assume Jalapeno flavoring and chips-not the case.
As with anything I align my energies with, I like to get as much information about the topics
that I find compelling enough to change my behavior namely Vegan activism.
Which when thinking about Veganism I always think of the quote by Don Marquis…
“If you make people think they’re thinking, they’ll love you; but if you really make them
think, they’ll hate you.”
Earthling Ed has a Youtube video called “You Will Never Look at Your Life in the Same Way Again – Eye-Opening Speech!” where he challenges the idea of tastebuds vs animal lives’.
His arguments center around the idea that an animal shouldn’t have to be killed for our “tastebuds” when there is no nutritional advantage of human meat consumption-actually it’s largely detrimental to our health.
Becoming or staying Vegan brings with it an awareness of how Corporate interests have taken
a hold of our food supply and not only created a grotesque industry out of animal suffering…
But have done so without any regard whatsoever to the cost of the health of their customers.
Not to mention the global environmental impact of their decisions based on short-term profits.
Another quote I often think of in tandem with Don Marquis is Margaret Mead’s assertion that…
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
The reason we started Vegan Health Essentials was to share our experiences and challenges
become more thoughtful committed earthlings like Earthling Ed.
We also wanted to share some of the Vegan Essentials For The Home Cook that we personally use on a daily basis to make the transition into a healthy Vegan lifestyle more accessible to those considering the change.
We would love to hear your feed back and thoughts about going Vegan and staying Vegan and how it has affected your life for the better.
